Hailing from New York City, Danny Blu is a stigma-free dark pop/dark-wave artist and frontman of alternative-rock band Echo Black. As an LGBTQ+ singer-songwriter, he is influenced by post-punk, industrial, EBM, new-wave, 90’s alternative rock and pop music.
Performing as Danny Blu since 2010, he built his early following with shocking rock performances in queer parties and New York City clubs and venues such as The Bitter End, including headlining The Studio-Webster Hall. Initially performing and touring alongside a live band, he formed Echo Black in 2015. As Echo Black, Blu has rigorously toured the US and Canada, opening for The Birthday Massacre, Combichrist, Genitorturers, Psyclon Nine, MXMS and Skold. He has also worked with notable producers, Matt Squire (Panic! At The Disco, Kesha, Sum 41) and Andros Rodriguez (Bleachers, Cobra Starship, Florence + The Machine) on the band’s underground hits, “Chemicals” and “Poison Apple”, as well as garnered the attention of BILLBOARD, REVOLVER, ALTERNATIVE PRESS, FUSE TV and THE HUFFINGTON POST. After successfully crowdfunding Echo Black’s first album, the band worked with producers Walter Kazmier (Mechanical Vampires, ex.Kissing Candice) and Axel Otero (Lay Your Ghost, William Control) and independently released “DAWN” on Friday, October 13 2017.
In summer 2019, Danny Blu re-emerged with a new “intense dark pop” sound and his first solo single in over 4 years titled, “Bubble”. Blu later premiered the “Bubble” music video with BILLBOARD PRIDE and quickly followed up with the single, “Burn” on NEW NOW NEXT. In January 2020, he released, “White (K)night” with ALTERNATIVE PRESS and subsequently released the dark dance-floor hit remix featuring KANGA with POST-PUNK.COM. Danny Blu continues to push the boundaries with dramatic lyrics and hybrid visceral sounds; first solo extended-play, “THE PALE HORSE”, is due to arrive on September 1 2020.
